For those who like to risk heartbreak by messing with their PS3 innards, there's good news for you. Well...that might be slightly overaggerating.
Apparently, if one switches out the original 5400rpm PlayStation 3 HDD for a 7200rpm drive, there is a slight improvement. And we do mean slight.
A PlayStation forum member named "hotpocketdeath" did the PS3 switcheroo and was quite pleased with the results. While the temperature rose five degrees with the 7200rpm, the performance did speed up somewhat.
