Aw, Sony. That's a no-no.
I read about this PS3 situation earlier, but was waiting for Sony to come out and heroically declare "Just kidding, boys and girls! We'd never pull a Microsoft!"
Didn't happen.
You know we all love things Sony here, but we have to calls 'em as we sees 'em, and this one just plain sucks. The first reports (and many even now) indicate that the only difference between the $499 and the $599 Playstation 3 was 40 gigs of hard drive space. Not so.
