A question for the ages
When I think of the cost of the PS3 due to Blu-ray, I harken back to a line stated by the brilliant William H. Macy in Fargo. A customer was complaining about the TruCoat expenses since he had no interest in having the sealant or paying extra for it. Macy's defense was, "See, they install that TruCoat at the factory, there's nothin' we can do..."
Blu-ray is the PS3's TruCoat. Ken Fisher has an in-depth analysis of whether the optical revolution should have been optional over At Ars Technica. The opening paragraph reads:
